How much electricity can a 1 Kw windmill produce?

With a wind speed of 27  Kph, a 1 Kw wind mill can produce 1000W or 1Kw per hour. So the first thing you will need to know is how fast and how long does the wind blow at your site.

Small windmills generally need a steady wind speed of  7 kilometers per hour to start producing electricity. At this wind speed, a one kilowatt (1000 watt) windmill is producing less than 100 watts or 10% of its capability.  See the example below

The most common statement I hear about wind is " it's the windiest place. The furniture blows off the deck."

Here are some of the results of one of these sites we tested for seven months.

On one data log of 156  hours there were 154 hours of wind. There were two hours of strong wind that would produce the maximum power. We calculated the power that would be produced from all usable wind. A windmill installed at that site would produce 14% of it's capability. A wind turbine should produce a minimum of 30% to be marginally useful.

For example:

1 Kw x 30% = 300 watts = 7.2 Kw per day x 12 cents = 86.4 cents per day

times 365 days  = $315.36 per year divided by the cost of $15,000.00 = 47.6 years to pay back.
